Alfreton is a civil parish and a town located in the Amber valley of county Derbyshire of England. Alfreton is in adjoining area of Bolsover and district in north-eastern Derbyshire. It is because of its location and pleasant climate, Alfreton receives a lot of visitors all round the year who come here to enjoy self-catering holidays.

Earlier, the town of Alfreton was much dependant on coal mining for its economical development, but by the year 1960, the warehousing and light industries took over.

The ancient buildings with historic importance present here include the George Hotel, which belongs to the 18th century and is located over the high street. Then there is the Alfreton hall, which was built in the year 1724-25 and was owned by Palmer Morewood family, who were the owners of many local coal mines. It was in the year 1963 the County Council acquired the hall and the nearby land. Just close to the hall off the high street is the large Parish Church of St Martin, which is a 13th century building. The church has a collection of monuments related to Morewood family.
