There are a number of quaint tea shops where you can while away the time in Alnmouth and enjoy some tea and cake. Along the main street, you can also find the Schooner Hotel, which dates back to the 17th century and is reputed to be the most haunted hotel in the whole of Britain. Keen golfers will also be interested to hear that the town has a golf course, not far from the beach. One of the best parts of town in terms of its scenic quality is down by Riverside Road where you can enjoy wonderful coastal views. A walk here, along the coastal path, past the park comes highly recommended. Don’t miss the much photographed pretty colourful seaside cottages that you can see!

Bamburgh Castle is one of Northumberland’s top attractions and well worth a visit, as is Holy Island with its castle. Take note though when visiting Holy Island, you can only travel on the causeway at certain times of the day, according to the tides. Do make sure that you get full information on tidal times before you visit as you don’t want to get washed away!
