Greece’s islands are all about summer fun and making lasting memories. The Aegean islands of Greece are popular for summer holidays and self catering breaks. The Aegean islands include the Cyclades, the Sporades, the North Aegean islands and also the Dodacenese islands. Also within the Aegean islands is the large holiday island of Crete. There are 24 Cyclades islands that can be visited for holidays. Well known Greek Cyclades islands include Mykonos, Santorini and Paros. Dodecanese islands include the large holiday island of Rhodes. Many of the Dodecanese islands are nearer Turkey than Greece. North Aegean islands include Thassos, Limnos and Lesvos. East Aegean islands include Samos, Chios and Ikaria. Most of the larger Greek islands are geared up for holidays. Greek islands are known for their beaches, largely blue skies and blue seas. Each island has a slightly different character. Some prefer to go to the larger islands with the greater choice of attractions and facilities whereas others prefer to head for the quiet smaller islands for a remote retreat.
