The most popular being the annual Hurling the Silver Ball competition which occurs every Shrove Tuesday. A competitive game that has lasted in Cornwall since medieval times, what starts with a scrum between the countrymen and the townsmen ends with a battle to pass a silver ball between two sets of goals that are two miles apart. Castle-an-Dinas dating back to 3BC and just two miles away from the centre of town, is one of the best-preserved Iron Age hill forts in the South West.
