Trim County Meath (9 miles from Fordstown) is a pretty Heritage town.  It has the greatest concentration of historical monuments in Ireland.  Hours can be spent exploring the ruins of the medieval cathedral, the monasteries, a small church with a date around 1206 and a number of medieval grave slabs.  Dominating the town is the Angle Norman Trim Castle built in 1173.  The square keep and grounds are surrounded by ruins and are open to the public.  Trim Castle made more recent history by being used in the film Braveheart.  The River Boyne with a lovely walk along its banks flows past the castle.
