Trowbridge is Wiltshire’s county town and is situated on the banks of the River Biss giving the town that all important riverside appeal.  The name of the town comes from ‘treow-brycg’ which means the ‘Tree Bridge’ and refers to the first bridge over the Biss.  Trowbridge has a number of elegant buildings, the grandeur of which stems from the wealth from the wool trade.  Trowbridge is an appealing place to take a self catering break.  As the 3rd largest town in Wiltshire, Trowbridge has plenty of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants.   A farmers market runs monthly.
