Find self-catering holiday accommodation in Wakefield, holiday apartments, cottages and houses. The town of Wakefield is a metropolitan district as well as the administrative centre of the city of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, England. It is also an important market town as well as a major centre of wool manufacturing. Its location near the Calder River has also make Wakefield a significant destination for self catering holidays.

Wakefield has derived its name from the word ‘Waca’s Field’ which means a watch and the open field in which wake festival was held. This town witnessed major progress in its industrial sector after it started trade in corn, coal mining, and textiles. It also became the centre for West Riding County Council in 1889 and for West Yorkshire Metropolitan Council in 1974.

Wakefield is also home to several landmarks amongst which the most significant one is the Wakefield Cathedral. This is the tallest church in Yorkshire with a height of 247 feet. Another landmark in the town includes the Civic Quarter, which is situated on Wood Street and is known for the Neoclassical Crown Court build in it. The Queen Anne Style County Hall and the St. John’s Church are also quite popular amongst the tourists.

To visit all these places and other attractions in the town in a convenient and fun filled way, tourists can stay in self catering accommodation like holiday chalets, self catering villas, log cabins, etc.
