Carmarthen is county town and a community located in the county of Carmarthenshire in south Wales. The town is situated on the River Towy, at a distance of 13 km from Carmarthen Bay. The town is considered as the oldest town in Wales and the settlements of Old and New Carmarthen were united as a single borough in the year of 1546. The popular places of tourist interest in this town are Picton’s Monument, General Nott Statue and St. Peter's Church. The original Picton’s monument was erected in the year of 1828 and located on the western part of the town in the memory of Sir Thomas Picton, who sacrificed his life in the Battle of Waterloo. It was fallen down in dilapidated state and was restored in 1988.
General Nott Statue was erected in Nott Square in 1851.
