Central Anatolia is best known for Cappadocia. A number of towns are dotted around Cappadocia. Goreme is a central point convenient for exploring many of the main sights in Cappadocia. If you want to be in the real heart of things it is hard to beat the atmosphere in Goreme. Goreme is probably the best well known town in Cappadocia. Goreme is surrounded by fairy chimneys and interesting rock formations. Take a break at La Manzana café in Goreme and sit out on their terrace for fantastic panoramic views across Goreme.
The Dark Church at Goreme Open Air Museum is particularly well preserved and a fascinating place to visit. Although interesting, Goreme Open Air musuem gets terribly overcrowded at times so it is best to visit on a week day, early in the day or at lunch time to avoid the queues.
Other towns in Cappadocia reasonably well located for exploring the area include Urgup, Mustafapasa and Uchisar. Each of these places has its own charms and attractions for a self catering holiday in Cappadocia, Turkey.
The majority of tourists visit Anatolia to see the sights of Cappadocia. You may wish to take one of the many organised bus trips to explore the area or if you are travelling independently you may prefer to hire a guide for specific sites. Many of the sites in Turkey have little information available for visitors so it can be useful to hire a guide.
Also within Anatolia is Konya, a religious centre in Turkey, which many Turks go to, in order to visit the official Mevlana museum.
