Portree on the Isle of Skye is one of the isle’s main towns. Portree is a coastal town with a pretty harbour with colourful houses and a small beach area where fishing boats are harboured on the sand in low tide. Portree centres around the main square and although not a big town by any means, there are pubs, a few restaurants, some shops, and a Post Office. Despite being small, Portree is the largest town on the Isle of Skye but do bear in mind that the isle is a remote place that is sparsely populated.

The cliffs near Staffin are a short drive from Portree and a sight to behold where you may be lucky enough to see sea eagles gliding in the sky. Portree is considered to be a good base for many when it comes to exploring the northern part of the Isle of Skye and is in a relatively central position from which to explore the Isle. Journeys to the very south of the island though can take a long time as there are lots of single track roads and journeys can be slow. Stay on the safe side and allow plenty of time when exploring the Isle of Skye.
