Dorset is a delightful county to visit in the south of England because the weather is so much nicer than most parts of Britain, it offers both fabulous beaches and beautiful countryside. Any self-catering break can be enhanced by staying in a holiday home that has its own swimming pool. This is especially valid for families with children; swimming will give them something healthy to do and can be great fun.
If you do manage to book a cottage that has a private pool, children will be able to indulge in extreme splash-time: jump in as often as they like, splash each other to their hearts content, use inflatables galore and generally mess about in a way that is not possible in a public pool.
Open air pools have a limited season of late spring to autumn but find a holiday home that has an indoor pool and it is available all year long.
Renting a holiday home in a cottage complex can be less expensive than an individual cottage but the swimming pool will be communal and shared with other guests.
