Aldbury in Hertfordshire is sometimes quoted as being one of England's favourite villages. It's traditionally English with the duck pond, village green, old stocks, church, Good food pub, a few small shops and numerous pretty country cottages. It sits at the foot of the Chilterns, close to the National Trust Ashridge Estate with forest and magnificent bluebell woods.
There are plenty of places to see and things to do in the area. The ridgeway is an 85 mile walk that takes in many marvellous views over the Chilterns and begins at Ivinghoe Beacon. The Grand Union Canal passes through Hertfordshire on its way from London to Birmingham offers interesting canal-side walks. It also passes through Berkhamsted where there are several lovely pubs by the canal for summer lunches.
