Canal side walks | The High Street offers a good selection of essential shops in addition to high quality lifestyle outlets. There are several pubs, cafes, restaurants, the inevitable estate agents. A small high street supermarket and a larger quality supermarket supply essential household requirement. The Art Deco cinema is always booked far in advance. Architecturally, it is a mix of old and new with well-preserved period buildings side by side with modern constructions. Some of the notable older buildings include the impressive Berkhamsted Public School founded in the 16th century, the Church of St Peter's which hails back to Norman times and characterful canal-side pubs.
