Thinking of taking a cottage holiday in the Isle of Man? The Isle of Man has plenty to offer for self-catering holidays. The Isle of Man is in the Irish Sea, centred between Northern Ireland and Cumbrai in the north west of England. Residents enjoy certain tax exemptions from the mainland and strangely enough remains outside the European Union. The Isle of Man is famous for TT Racing, the Manx Grand Prix is held there at the end of every August. The late comedian Norman Wisdom was a famous Manx resident. Other famous Manx residents are the tailess cats, known as Manx cats, and were originally bred on the Isle of Man. They actually have a very short stumpy tail.
The Isle of Man is a good holiday destination if you want to escape the fast pace of life on the mainland and stay in the unspoilt countryside with endless walks and teeming with wild flowers. Wild species of orchid can be found in the meadows and because it is an island, there are numerous species of sea birds which find sanctuary around the coast. Climb Snaefell, the tallest hill on the island at 2034 ft to enjoy panoramic views. There is an easy route to the summit using the Victorian railway from Laxey. Some of us cannot understand why anyone should want to get to the summit any other way. On clear days it is possible to see the distant shores of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Ballaglass Glen is a lovely valley to visit at the end of April or beginning of May for dense carpets of bluebells and their intoxicating scent.
Go to the Isle of Man for a complete getaway, wild flowers galore, nature and birds. Find a comfortable self-catering cottage for your holiday and unwind.
