About this unique self-catering for up to 8 guests in Borders
An unusual castellated Scottish self-catering holiday home awaits in the Borders town of Coldstream. Part of the accommodation is situated in the tower with the advantage of good views over the surrounding area.
The original building stands in a courtyard and is solidly stone-built. The rooms are spacious and attractively equipped. There are two sitting rooms and four bedrooms with plenty of personal space for up to eight guests.
Each of the living rooms has a wrought iron balcony with seating on either side of the tower affording views over the rear courtyard and parking area. To the front are communal lawns. The accommodation has gas central heating plus wood burner effect fires in the sitting rooms.
The large dining kitchen with a flagged floor and oodles of character is the hub of the house, a place where people gather around the table for eight, prepare meals and snacks. It is well equipped with a gas range cooker, an essential dishwasher and fridge freezer.
The four bedrooms are all delightful in their own way. Lots would need to be drawn for the ground floor king-size bedroom with its own sitting area and en-suite shower room. Two twin bedrooms on the 2nd floor are carpeted and neat. A double bedroom on the 3rd floor, closer to the starscompletes the sleeping quarters. There is also a family bathroom witha standalone roll-top bath.
This Coldstream self-catering accommodation is both easy on the eye and comfortable. There is a games machine in one of the sitting rooms which doubles as an entertainment/games room, also a library of DVDs and reading material.
The nearest pub is just a couple of minutes walk away and plenty of other amenities on the doorstep.
Coldstream is famous for its military association and there is a museum locally that records its history. A walk along the banks of the meandering River Tweed is a must. The river marks the border between Scotland and England so that in a boat it is possible to sway back and forth. The river is also known for salmon fishing which may be possible with permits.
Hirsel Lake is 6 minutes drive away where there is a tea room and arts and crafts centre. It would be another fine place to walk to on a sunny day to watch local craftsmenand at work.
