County Kerry in the South West of the country is home to the historic Killarney National Park, incidentally the first national park in Ireland. Home to three iconic lakes, Lough Leane, Upper Lake and Muckross Lake, Killarney National Park is a scene of incredible and undeniable beauty. Muckross Lake, in particular (despite not being the largest lough of the three) is without doubt the most talked about by local folk. Why I hear you ask? Well, similarly to Loch Ness up in Scotland, if rumours are to be believed, there is a legendary ancient creature-like monster moving freely below the lake. Spotted a few times by various sources, nobody is sure whether what was seen is a giant serpent, a great eel or a genuine trick of the light. With stunning views of the surrounding mountains in the area, there’s no better way to enjoy what’s around you than outside on your extensive patio area or through the large windows in your well-lit and tasteful living room. Just make sure you get up the next day and embark on the thrilling feast of water sports like kayaking, surfing and stand up paddle boarding that are on display in the local area!
