The south of the island includes the excellent beaches of Jandia, Costa Calma and Sotaventa in its 20 km stretch of sandy dune backed bays and lagoons. The Tradewinds make this area suitable for wind surfing and kite flying. An annual windsurfing speed and slalom competition is held during August so bring your windbreak. Watersports equipment is available for hire and refreshments in beach bars.
Corralejo beach on the east of the island slopes gently into the sea - great for paddling. There are plenty of other beaches to explore if you have transport.
Some of the quieter beaches such as Cofete are suitable for nude sunbathing for that allover tan.
The peace and quiet of Feurteventura is temporarily disrupted by Carnival when individual towns celebrate with street parties, music, floats and events from January to April.
And if you like a lively atmosphere, head for Caleta de Fuste for bars, restaurants, nightlife, a golf course, tourist boat trips, shops and cinema.
