The town of Tring sits on the northern edge of the chalky Chilterns, surrounded by countryside. It has good routes into London - the train journey takes less than an hour. Other nearby towns are Aylesbury - 5 miles, and Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire - 8 miles. The Ashridge Forest, part of the National Trust borders the east side of the town and offers good places to walk and enjoy nature. The Chilterns, know for their beechwoods, are crossed by several footpaths and bridleways. The Ridgeway long distance walk is reasonably close. More forest walks can be found south west of the town at Wendover Woods. The four reservoirs that supply water for the canal locks of the historic Grand Union canal lie to the north of Tring and are now a bird sanctuary and nature reserve. It's another of Hertfordshire pleasant market towns (market day is Friday) with good facilities and transport links.
