Looking for a holiday cottage to rent in the Mendip Hills?  We feature a great range of self-catering holiday accommodation in and near the Mendips in Somerset; choose from country cottages, holiday cottages, houses and pine lodges.

Discover What the Mendip Hills Offer for Cottage Holidays

Explore the Mendip Hills on your holiday.  This area of outstanding natural beauty lies across Somerset, from just outside Weston-super-Mare to the outskirts of Frome, 25 miles to the south-east. On their south-west side the hills drop abruptly to a low moor, while on the other side they slope more gently in a series of Foothills. Because the Mendips rise from a low-lying plain, they appear higher than they really are; Black Down, the highest point of the range is only 1067 ft above sea level.  Whether you enjoy walking, wildlife watching or cycling, this is a beautiful part of Somerset to discover.

The central and highest part of the Mendips is a bare upland region of lonely fields. To the east, the hills are lower and the landscape gentler, sloping gradulally down to the lowlands. The western section consists of two ridges, whose hills include, Sandford Hill, Banwell Hill and Bleadon Hill, which reach almost to the coast. The Mendips are composed of limestone covering old red sandstone.  The limestone accounts for the large number of drystone walls, the famous caves at Cheddar and Wookey, and numerous smaller caves and 'swallet holes' - small holes in the limestone which temporarily 'swallow up' streams. On the heights and along the byways the country is remote, the air bracing and the stillness profound. The Mendips offer splendid walking and cycling to those looking for seclusion and natural beauty.

We hope you find the best Mendips Hills cottage for you.
