Do you love to discover naturally beautiful areas of countryside on a cottage holiday? If so then renting a holiday cottage within one of Britain’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty could be a great choice.
Wondering what each of these AONBs has to offer? Well these areas of countryside, farmlands, woodlands and moorlands have been especially selected and recognised for their natural beauty and character and are found dotted throughout the UK. There are 46 AONBs in total, 33 of which lie within England, 1 of which falls within the English/Wales border country, 4 in Wales and 8 in Northern Ireland. Recognised for their beauty, these areas enjoy some protections and truly are marvellous areas to explore and enjoy on holiday.
There are some fantastc outdoor activities to enjoy within Britain's AONBs such as walking, horse-riding, hiking and wildlife-watching, to name but a few, which are made even the more enjoyable when done amongst such fantastic scenery.
Scotland as you may note does not have any AONBs but those who have visited this magnificent country will know that Scotland is home to some absolutely sublimely beautiful countryside with glens, mountains and parklands galore. Scotland instead has a Scenic Heritage scheme and National Scenic Areas.
