High standards of cleanliness in self-catering cottages

Finding holiday rentals with a high standard of cleanliness has never been as important as now.  We need to know that all surfaces have been disinfected, that dishes, glasses and crockery have been thoroughly cleansed in a dishwasher and that all bedding has been laundered and changed. If you are risk averse, opt for high quality, professionally maintained holiday homes where superior standards are the norm.

Viruses can survive for over 48 hours on certain surfaces so it is also best if there is a few days grace between lettings just to be on the safe side.
Washable flooring rather than carpets lend themselves to better hygiene. Look for holiday cottages that have tiled, Amtico, or flagged floors that are easily mopped and disinfected. Small rugs that are machine washed between guests may be acceptable, such as bath mats or cotton rugs.

All surfaces disinfected

There are numerous surfaces in any holiday home in addition to floors, windowsills and tables.  Bath surrounds, tops of bins, skirting boards, tops of appliances should all be spotless.

It goes without saying that frequently touched switches, door knobs and shower pulls need frequent cleaning, even during your stay. It may be prudent to take wipes on holiday with you so that you are able to wipe down these items on a daily basis after you return home. Country and coastal breaks will inevitably be the holidays of choice as people avoid highly populated areas.  

A holiday gives all of us a boost and we are going to have to balance peace of mind with risk whilst taking sensible precautions.

Self-catering is a picnic

Picnics may become more popular on holiday than eating out in a restaurant in the current economic climate.  You can have confidence in food that you purchase and prepare yourself. Self-catering accommodation provides all the means to do this. Remember to take your cool bag or picnic hamper on holiday with you, storage boxes and food packaging.  A picnic rug or portable chairs may also prove useful.
