Book self-catering accommodation in Ilminster, Somerset. There are cottages, pine lodges and dog-friendly holiday homes in the area. Each Ilminster property available to rent for a week at a time or a shot break of 3 nights or more, is a fully equipped holiday home. Some will have back gardens and allow guests to bring a dog or two. Dog owners look for self-catering cottages for this reason – many do not want to leave their beloved pets at home.
Ilminster is a large lively town, with modern housing around an ancient central core. Many of the shops are in Silver Street and East Street, both fairly narrow roads not originally designed for modern traffic. There are quite a number of independent shops to browse, which is always an enjoyable part of a holiday. The old market cross, which is built with a roof and columns is an attractive ancient building and there are many more which may be of interest to holidaymakers who love the amount of history there is on show in England.
The town has all the amenities anyone staying in a holiday rental would desire; a big supermarket, bakeries, eateries, fitness centre and more.
Roads from Ilminster lead to: Curry Rivel, Langport, Chard and Axminster (of carpet fame). The surrounding countryside and nearby Blackdown Hills are very beautiful. The Dorset coast, seaside towns of Lyme Regis, Charmouth and Seatown are about half an hour’s drive south. There is a coastal path to walk there and trams to ride in Seaton.
National Trust members may wish to pay a visit to Barrington Court during their holiday; it is a Tudor mansion with gardens and a good tea shop. Cream teas and cider abound in Somerset. Do come and stay – you will love it.
