The British Virgin Islands are a sprinkling of over 60 small paradisiacal Caribbean islands set in a turquoise sea. 16 of the islands are large enough to be inhabited and offer the holidaymaker real seclusion and tranquillity. Lush vegetation adorns the islands, from the palm trees on the white sand beaches and mangroves, to the rain forest covered mountain tops.
The island of Tortola, with yachting marina, is the largest island of the Virgin Island group. A bridge links it to Beef Island, with international airport. The best beaches are in the north of the island. Devil's Bay is wonderful for snorkeling. In the south of Tortola, its capital Rad Town has a market where you can buy tropical fruit and spices.
You can get around the Virgin Islands by water taxi or plane for somewhere different. There is an annual programme of events, with some unusual ones listed such Full Moon Party and Fishermen's Jamboree.
