Horsham is a pleasant country market town on the upper reaches of the River Arun in the centre of the Weald, West Sussex and makes an ideal self catering cottage holiday destination. A good base for walking through the 12,000 acres of St Leonard's Forest, where there are deep, wooded valleys and hills covered with gorse and heather. The forest has beds of lilies of the valley which, according to legend, sprang from drops of blood shed by St Leonard after fighting a mighty dragon. Here, some of the ancient forest magic still lingers and herds of deer roam wild.
