Just the very thought of going on holiday with children is something that most parents aim for but at the same time it can entail quite an anxious period of preparation. At least when booking a self-catered cottage holiday, you know that there is good, comfortable and safe accommodation to stay in where the children will have plenty of room to run about and play. Should you encounter any problems, there will be English speaking managers or owners to help with the difficulties.
A family with several children of different ages has a fair bit of planning to do to ensure that every child not only has holiday clothes packed but that they also have their favourite bedtime books and toys. Child-centred equipment can be requested at family-friendly holiday accommodation and this may include cots, stair gates, baby baths, high chairs and even baby monitors and changing mats. Some cottage owners can organise baby-sitting services so that you can have a night out during the holiday. Choose holiday cottages that specialise in family breaks to have playgrounds with swings, slides, trampolines and other garden play equipment.
With older children, a swimming pool can be a welcome asset. Kids like to swim and splash about. Take a beach ball, a few inflatables and you will be able to keep the young ones amused for hours. Find self-catered accommodation such as cottages, pine lodges or chalets in holiday parks that have a swimming pool, or individual private holiday homes with a pool.
Children will also happily spend hours playing on a beach. The simple delight of running in and out of waves, building sandcastles, moats and burying each other will have them happily occupied. Find seaside cottages that have a wealth of facilities for families. At the top end, luxury 5 star cottages may share an indoor pool, have a superbly equipped games room with games consoles, table tennis, table football and possibly snooker. Stay in a holiday cottage complex and there may also be good leisure facilities for adults; gym, sauna, full sized snooker table and golf. Optional babysitting and a catering service may also be available to guests on request.
Kids love discovering animals on a farm, stroking and feeding them. Find farm holiday cottages set in the beautiful and tranquil countryside. Go for nature walks, cycling with the children and if you have a shower, return to your rural holiday home for drinks, snacks and a little while watching television until it all blows over.
