Suffolk, on the East coast of England is a county of lush valleys and reedy rivers, with landscapes that have inspired great artists such as Constable, Gainsborough and Munnings. Hire a row boat from Flatford Mill, where Constable painted possibly his most famous work "The Hay Wain", and row through the unchanged scenery of willows, shimmering meadows and winding streams.
A self catering cottage holiday in Suffolk has the best that the countryside has to offer, fantastic beaches, centuries old cottages and wonderful medieval churches. Popular with nature lovers, walkers and bird watchers in particular, the Suffolk Coastal Path leads from Bawdsey Quay north all the way to Lowestoft. Passing through the marshy coastline of Orfordness with its many species of wading birds, before heading inland past Orford castle to Snape, with its World famous Maltings Music venue. Turning towards the sea and on to the seaside town of Aldeburgh, home to the Aldeburgh festival in June each year, Aldeburgh is as perfect a traditional seaside escape as you could hope to find. At the end of the coastal path Lowestoft has two of the very best Blue flag beaches anywhere in England. Backed by beach huts with two piers for refreshments and entertainment, the deep and long beaches of fine sand are ideal for family sand castle building.
