Occasionally, we come across a gem of a holiday home and this cottage comes into that category. It appears to be a traditional Scottish granite and harled cottage on the outside, step inside to discover a lovingly created cosy haven. The photographs of this holiday cottage speak for themselves.
Standing near the end of a cul-de-sac in the hamlet of Milton, near Drumnadrochit, Dunollie Cottage offers a splendid self-catering holiday around 17 miles from Inverness in the Highlands. Perfect for a two generational family, the accommodation is actually the main cottage that sleeps four, plus a separate annexe (no kitchen) that sleeps two. Both parts of the property are equally divine and may suit a family of four accompanied by a couple of grandparents.
The main part of the accommodation that sleeps four.
A pretty white front door opens into the outer lobby before leading to the main hallway. This is the place to remove muddy boots after a ramble in the Highlands. Parts of the original stone walls are left exposed to marry with painted and plastered walls to good effect. A beautifully colour-co-ordinated sitting room has a pair of sofas set in front of the log burner. A television stands in the corner. Relax in front of the fire and check your phone using the WiFi. The property is centrally heated so that it is not requisite to light a fire unless you like the cosy atmosphere that glowing logs create.
The kitchen dining room is open-plan. The dining area is another character filled space, somewhat reminiscent of ancient inns with exposed timbers except nicer. It also has a log burner and a table that seats six which means that the two additional members of the family staying in the annex could join you for dinner.
It would be a pleasure to work in the country-style white wood kitchen with its oak worktops. The kitchen is supplied with everything any ardent cook would need to rustle up good food to keep the family happy. All useful domestic appliances are present including a dishwasher and freezer. The cooker is electric.
Go to bed in style in one of two bedrooms in this main part of the accommodation. Both bedrooms share a luxurious shower room. Nicely furnished, sweet dreams will come easily whether you sleep in the master bedrooms that has a king-size bed or in the family bedroom which contains a double bed plus a single.
A conservatory provides another room to escape to and might be good for early risers who could take their morning tea there without waking other members of the family.
The Annex for two:
Equally comfortable, the annex has a spacious king-size bedroom, a gorgeous shower room and its own separate sitting room, also with a woodburning stove. This separate accommodation might suit grandparents, or teenagers or a family may wish to banish snorers out of earshot.
There is a garden that children could play in, or guests could sit out and snatch a little sunshine on the exceptional sunny days. Small children should be supervised because of a stream in the front garden and a pond behind the house.
Enjoy spotting wildlife in the surrounding area: rabbits galore, deer, owls, squirrels. Drive down to the shores of Loch Ness and tell the children about Nessie. Visitor attractions include Blairbeg Park, Urquhart Castle.
The city of Inverness is under half an hour’s drive north through stunning scenery. Explore, go for nature treks, picnics. Discover Scottish food and Highland specialities.
This lovely cottage offers the opportunity for an unforgettable self-catering holiday in the Scottish Highlands.
